Yes, you read that correctly….better than sex bars! What does that have to do with Orange Boozy Brownies? Okay here’s the story…Back when I was 11 years old, a friend of mine gave me a recipe for “Better than Sex Bars”. Being 11 years old, we thought that was hysterical! So at the tender age of 11, I started making what we have always called “BTS Bars”.

These Orange Boozy Brownies are rich, chocolaty, and spiked with orange liqueur cookingwithcurls.com

They have a brownie base, with a rum walnut filling and topped off with a chocolate ganache type topping. A few years ago I decided to start playing around with the flavors and see what else I could create. My dear friend Michelle commented on the Peanut Butter Cup Boozy Brownies that I posted a few weeks ago. She thought they sounded very similar to those BTS Bars that we used to make in high school. Well they are the same, but with a few tweaks!

How to make Orange Boozy Brownies:

Preheat oven to 325 degrees. Place parchment paper inside a 9 x 13 pan with extra length to use as handles.

Chocolate Base:

Melt chocolate and butter in the microwave in a medium bowl. Start with one minute and stir. Continue heating in 15 second intervals until completely melted. Cool slightly, like 5 minutes or so.

In a large bowl, beat eggs while gradually adding sugar.

When all of the sugar is beaten in, slowly add the chocolate mixture. Continue beating until smooth.

Add the flour, salt, espresso powder, and almond liqueur.

Beat for one full minute to combine.

Pour into prepared pan.

Bake for 25 – 30 minutes, do not over bake. Allow to cool completely.

Orange Filling:

Beat butter and sugar together in a large bowl, gradually adding the coconut milk and orange liqueur until smooth. Add food color gel if desired.

Spread over cooled chocolate base. Place in the refrigerator to chill, 30 – 60 minutes.

Chocolate Topping:

Place topping ingredients in a medium sized bowl.

Heat in the microwave for one minute, stir. Continue heating and stirring until chocolate is melted and mixture is smooth.

Pour over chilled bars.

Place back in the refrigerator until completely chilled.

Cut into desired shapes/sizes and serve.
