Gingersnap Syrup

This easy, homemade Gingersnap Syrup recipe has all the warm and cozy flavors of a gingersnap cookie, and is the perfect way to spice up any drinks (like coffee or cocktails) you add it to.

I have a Gingersnap Latte recipe coming up this week, so a delicious Gingersnap Syrup is a must! You could also think of it as a Gingerbread Syrup since they are very similar, but I had gingersnap cookies on the brain so that’s what I went with.

Ingredients needed to make this recipe:

  • water
  • sugar
  • blackstrap molasses
  • ground ginger
  • ground cinnamon
  • dash ground cloves
  • pure vanilla extract

How to make Gingersnap Syrup:

Bring water, sugar, molasses, ginger, cinnamon, and dash of cloves to a boil in a medium saucepan.

I used a whisk to combine all of the ingredients. Reduce heat and simmer for 15 minutes.

Allow to cool slightly, then carefully pour through a cheesecloth lined mesh strainer.

Add the vanilla extract.

Store in a sealed contain in the refrigerator until ready to use.

My house smelled amazing while this Gingersnap Syrup was simmering away!

Recipe Notes & Tips

  • Yes, you will end up with about 2 cups of Gingersnap Syrup. Water evaporates and sugar dissolves so the volume is less than some expect.
  • Dash of cloves literally means a dash! Tilt the jar and give it a small shake to get a small amount. Cloves are very strong and the flavor can be over powering if you use too much.
  • I bought my glass bottle several years ago at TJ Maxx, but this one at Amazon is similar {affiliate link}. This recipe requires 2 separate bottles since they are only 8.5 ounces each.

  1. I think the aroma alone is a good enough reason to prepare this! It looks so good, and it would be such a great gift! I was working in a client’s yesterday and she had two full bottles of blackstrap molasses and we were discussing how she would use it up. One day too late seeing this!
