It’s time for another blogger Dessert Challenge, and this month is apples and cinnamon. Ahhh, the possibilities!! I decided to go with an Apple Streusel Pizza…yes, yes, I know…you are thoroughly shocked! I created another type of pizza. At this point, I think anything that is flat with toppings and baked…is called a pizza! What do you think?

I knew almost immediately what I wanted to make, I just wasn’t exactly sure how I wanted to put it all together. I finally decided on delicious and easy frozen puff pastry as the base. Then for the topping, I used my Apple Crisp recipe hoping it would turn out the way I imagined it in my head. It turned out even better than I had hoped. Cassi gobbled this pizza down!! In fact, we were practically fighting over it…..it was that good!

I wanted it to have a little something extra, so I created a simple vanilla glaze to drizzle over the top. That is what took this dessert from an apple crisp to a fantastic apple dessert worthy of a dessert challenge. Did I mention how easy it was to make? So simple! The hardest part was waiting for it to cool down enough to try it!

How to make Apple Streusel Pizza:

Preheat oven to 375 degrees. Line a baking sheet with parchment paper. Carefully unroll the puff pastry sheets and place them on the parchment paper. Score a 3/4-inch border around the edge to create a “crust”. Do not go all the way through the dough! Set aside.

In a large bowl, mix together the flour, oats, brown sugar, cinnamon, nutmeg, and butter with a fork until it forms a crumbly mixture. Set aside.

Seriously delicious!!

Recipe Notes & Tips

  • All oven cook differently so baking times may need to be adjusted. Keep an eye on it! My oven in Arizona cooks much hotter than the one I had in Iowa, so my pizza is a bit overdone.
  • Apples are incredibly dry here in the desert, well everything is, but I had a hard time getting the apples to slice without breaking apart. That is why some are already turning brown in the images, and there is a mosaic of apples in the center. The streusel topping hides everything!
  • Use any type of apples that you like. Granny Smith are generally more tart. Honey Crisp are sweeter and juicier.

  2. Wow…I’m mostly a chocolate girl myself, but I’m a dang sucker for a good apple recipe too! I have a fab praline taffy apple pie recipe that I’ll be sharing sometime this fall. My husband rescued it from an OLD Country Living mag I had from over 20 years ago! But it’s still my go-to apple pie recipe. But hey…this looks amazing…anything with puff pastry and I’m THERE!!!
