Bring water, sugar, molasses, ginger, cinnamon, and cloves to a boil in a medium saucepan.
Reduce heat and simmer for 15 minutes.
Allow to cool slightly, then pour through a cheesecloth lined mesh strainer. Add the vanilla extract.
Store in a sealed contain in the refrigerator until ready to use.

Yes, you will end up with about 2 cups of Gingersnap Syrup. Water evaporates and sugar dissolves so the volume is less than some expect.
Dash of cloves literally means a dash! Tilt the jar and give it a small shake to get a small amount. Cloves are very strong and the flavor can be over powering if you use too much.
