Heat oil in a large Dutch oven over medium heat. Add the onion and cook for 3 to 4 minutes.
Add the ground beef and garlic. Cook until meat is no longer pink.
Stir in the cumin, chili powders, tomatoes, and beans.
Pour in the Guinness and brown sugar, stir to combine.
Cover and simmer for 1 to 1.5 hours.
Serve garnished with sour cream, shredded cheese, diced red onions, sliced jalapeños, and green onions.
Notes
I always add sugar to recipes with canned tomatoes, it helps take the acidic edge off.
You can use any ground beef; 85/15, 90/10, 80/20.
This recipe will work with any brand of stout beer.
Feel free to substitute your favorite type of beans.
