The weekend is coming up and you are craving BBQ Ribs, but you are on a Keto diet and cannot eat traditional, sugary barbecue sauce. Do you cheat? Do you ignore your cravings? No silly, you make Sugar Free BBQ Sauce!! Thick and tangy with kicks of spice and enough smokey flavor to fool your family and friends…..
I cooked those ribs in my Instant Pot while this Sugar Free BBQ Sauce was simmering. When they were ready I coated them in sauce and put them under the broiler for a few minutes. Imagine that, a delicious, sugar-free dinner in less than an hour. Cravings satisfied!!
How to make Sugar Free BBQ Sauce:
Add all of the sauce ingredients to a medium saucepan and whisk to combine…..
Bring to a boil, then reduce heat and simmer for 20 minutes…..
to allow the sugar to dissolve and the sauce to thicken.
Allow sauce to cool before pouring into a container to store in the refrigerator, or use immediately…..
Exactly what I wanted, they could not have turned out any better with a sugary sauce!
Notes:
- This sauce will not caramelize the same way that a sugary sauce will when placed under the broiler.
- I used a combination of erythritol and stevia to round out their flavors.
- Stevia alone is too bitter, and I needed the bulk of the erythritol to blend with the sauce.
Why didn’t you use fresh garlic and onions in this bbq sauce?
- Fresh garlic and onions would make the sauce chunkier and I did not want to pull out the blender
- I was looking for a super easy bbq sauce that could be thrown together with basic items in the pantry.
- Fresh goes bad faster, powdered will make this sauce last a bit longer in the refrigerator.
