Well it’s that time of year again…Are you ready for some fooooootbaaaaaal? You know what my favorite part of football is? Making the Super Bowl 2016 Cocktails! I still know nothing about football, but I really do enjoy creating fun drinks. Each year I try to create cocktails that are the correct colors for the teams that are playing…..
but I also look into the cocktails that are popular in the team’s area. During my research for the South Carolina Panthers, cocktails containing mint kept popping up. There was a Hemmingway Mojito and a Mint Julep, so I decided to go with a Berry Mojito….using black and blue berries…like the colors on their uniforms. 🙂
I did not want giant lime footballs again this year to garnish the glasses, so I simply cut the lines into a lime wedge using a lemon zester. And no, that is not quite as easy as it sounds, but they turned out pretty cute. If you would like to make lime footballs, the instructions are here.….
I started with my Blackberry Simple Syrup recipe, but used half blue berries, and half blackberries…..
Click on the link for complete directions. Make your syrup ahead of time so it is completely cooled before game day!
How to make 2016 Super Bowl Cocktails:
Place mint leaves, lime juice, a few crushed ice cubes, and berry syrup in a cocktail shaker…..
Muddle to release the flavors. {I have this Mojito Muddler from Amazon}
Add the rum with a few more ice cubes, shake to combine.
Strain into 2 cocktail glasses filled with ice.
Top with club soda, stir and garnish with mint and fresh berries.
If you are having a big party, you could always multiply the recipe to fill a pitcher. Just a thought. 😉
A strange thing happened when I went to the liquor department looking for blue curacao, they do not sell it at any store where I live!! How is that possible?? Soooo, I decided to try UV Blue Vodka instead, and it turned out way too light…..
It turned out so light, that you could actually use it as a Panther’s cocktail and switch out the orange with a lime. 😉 I still wanted to use the original Bronco Super Bowl Cocktail since it is really tasty {it tastes like a creamsicle}, so we will just stick with the original image…..
Place ice cubes in a small cocktail glass. Add the vodka.
Fill glass with Jones cream soda {because it is clear}
Pour blue curacao over the back side of a spoon on top of the drink.
Garnish with an orange wedge/slice, and serve.
I even created a yummy new appetizer for the big game, Irish Chili Nachos {recipe coming soon}…..
Who knows, maybe I will actually watch the game this year! 😉
Enjoy, and I hope your team wins!!
