Go grab those wild-caught fish filets out of the freezer so they have time to defrost. This Asian 5-Spice Compound Butter is the perfect way to add intense flavor to your meal and it’s super easy to make! Don’t you just love it when the stars align and you can make a delicious meal without spending all day in the kitchen?
I have about 6 pounds of salmon taking up space in my freezer right now so that is what I made for dinner, but any fish will work. You could also use this Asian 5-Spice Compound Butter on steaks or pork chops, it’s very versatile!
How to make Asian 5-Spice Compound Butter:
Mix the softened butter/ghee together with the salt and Chinese 5-spice in a small bowl.
Add the orange zest and mix until thoroughly combined.
Scoop out the butter mixture and form into a log shape in the center of parchment paper sheet.
Fold over one side and smooth it down the side of the butter.
Gently roll the butter log over and over again to form a tube. Twist or fold the ends under to secure.
Place in the refrigerator to chill for an hour or two. Unwrap and slice into discs/rounds and place on hot fish or steaks.
Serve immediately, it melts quickly!
Notes:
- Parchment paper sheets were used in this recipe, but plastic wrap or wax paper would work as well.
- Chinese 5-Spice can be found in almost all grocery stores or on Amazon.
- I prefer McCormick Gourmet and Simply Organic over The Spice Hunter, which has a much stronger clove flavor!
