I have yet another fun hot dog creation for you, Greek Hot Dogs! These are beef hot dogs topped with tzatziki {cucumber and yogurt dip}, lettuce, tomatoes, onion slices, and grated Greek kefalotyri cheese, and wrapped in pita bread…..so they pretty much think they are gyros. Have you ever had gyros? If not, this is going to seem very strange to you, LOL.
How to make Greek Hot Dogs:
Gyros are seasoned meat that is thinly sliced and served wrapped in pita bread. So I decided to stick with that same idea, with a twist. I sliced my hot dogs in half…..
and cooked them in a pan…..
I think that next time I will thinly slice the hot dogs into strips and see how that works. 😉 Then I heated the pita bread one at a time in a pan…..
To assemble, spread some cucumber and yogurt dip {Tzatziki} down the center of the pita…..
top with the hot dog…..
then top with lettuce, tomato and onion slices, olives, and grated Greek cheese…..
fold over and serve…..
I bet everyone in the family will be confused, and unable to guess what you are serving for dinner, LOL, but they will love them just the same!!
Gyros are traditionally served with french fries, but I only had sweet potatoes, so that’s what I served mine with. 😉
