Deep Dish Hawaiian Pizza is the perfect combination of melted cheese, Canadian bacon, tomato sauce, and pineapple chunks on a thick, delicious crust. To take your pizza to the next level, use this amazing homemade pizza crust! Ahhhh, perfection!

Did you know that Hawaiian Pizza is not actually Hawaiian, it's Canadian? Crazy right? The Hawaiian pizza was created at the Satellite Restaurant in Chatham, Ontario, Canada in 1962 by Sam Panopoulos.

I am pretty sure that their version had a traditional, thin crust, but I was in the mood for deep dish!

How to make Deep Dish Hawaiian Pizza:

I started with my favorite Pizza Dough recipe. The first time that I made this pizza, I used a standard 10-inch cast iron skillet.....but the crust was too thick! So I gave it another try with a 12-inch skillet and it turned out perfectly! <<insert happy dance>>

Preheat oven to 425 degrees. Swirl 2 tablespoons of olive oil around the bottom and sides of a 12-inch cast iron pan. Add the pizza dough and press up the sides as best that you can.

It can be a bit tricky with the oil, but it will work. Now cover with a dish towel and set aside in a warm spot to rise until doubled, 30 to 45 minutes.

Pizza dough pushed up the sides of a cast iron skillet.

Press your fingers around the edge to keep the sides up. Spread pizza sauce over the dough {as  much as you like}.

Add the shredded or torn mozzarella cheese {as much as you like}.

Then add the ham {or Canadian bacon} slices and pineapple tidbits.

Sprinkle with freshly grated Parmesan cheese.

Bake for 25 to 30 minutes until crust is golden brown and cheese is melted and bubbly. Carefully remove from the oven {the pan is hot and heavy}, slice and serve.

Garnish with Italian parsley or cilantro, whichever you have on hand works. You may need to blot the top of your pizza with a paper towel when it first comes out of the oven. The pineapple and fresh mozzarella tend to release moisture while baking.

I did not mind having to eat this pizza twice in one week, it was amazing. I did not feel it was oily or greasy, and it slid right out of the pan.

Tools used to create this recipe:

    • 12-inch Cast Iron Skillet
    • Cheese Grater
