Monster Mash Popcorn is a sweet, Halloween popcorn topped with slime green chocolate, ghoulish sprinkles and M&Ms, candy eyes, and purple chocolate covered pretzels. This fun and easy to make popcorn is crazy delicious and loved by everyone!

This recipe was updated on September 23, 2021 with new images and the addition of purple pretzel sticks.

A black bucket overflowing with green monster mash popcorn.

This is one that the kiddos would have fun making, assuming that they are old enough to reach the microwave. I made my popcorn in the microwave {in brown paper bags} and dumped it into a LARGE bowl, you want lots of space for mixing.

    Recipe ingredients:

Popped popcorn, green and purple candy melts, m&ms, sprinkles, candy eyes and pretzel sticks.
    • Popped popcorn made in whatever way works for you.
    • Vibrant Green candy melts for the popcorn, and Violet candy melts for the pretzel sticks. You could also use regular pretzels, or the squares.
    • Halloween colored sprinkles come in all different shapes and colors. I decided to stick with the traditional colors; green, purple, orange, and black. They include jimmies and small pearls, as well as the candy eyes.
    • Halloween M&Ms or any other candy coated chocolates.

How to make Monster Mash Popcorn:

Place the green candy melts in a microwave safe bowl. Heat on HIGH for one minute, stir and heat for an additional minute. Stir and continue heating and stirring in 15 second intervals until the candy is melted and smooth.

Melted green candy in a small bowl.

Pour over the popcorn and gently stir to completely cover.

Melted green chocolate poured over popcorn in a large bowl.

Start on the right side under the popcorn, and move to the left lifting the popcorn up and over. Turn the bowl and move around the entire bowl until it is completely covered.

Popcorn coated with green chocolate in a large bowl with a silicone spatula.

Add the candy coated chocolates and half of the ghoulish confetti sprinkles, stir to combine.

Spread the popcorn mixture out on a parchment paper or silicone mat lined baking sheet. Sprinkle with the decorative candy eyes and the remaining confetti sprinkles.

    Set aside to cool completely.

Place the purple candy melts in a microwave safe bowl. Heat on HIGH for 30 seconds, stir and heat for an additional 15 seconds. Stir and continue heating and stirring in 15 second intervals until the candy is melted and smooth.

Dip the pretzel sticks into the melted chocolate, remove and place on a silicone mat or parchment paper. Set aside and allow the chocolate to set.

When ready to serve, break the popcorn apart into smaller pieces and mix with the pretzel sticks.

    Recipe modifications:

    • I almost grabbed the purple candy melts so I could call it Purple People Eater Popcorn, but I just can't pass up the color green! Use any color that you like.
    • If you like more candies in your mix, add more, add nuts, add whatever you like. Have fun with it.
    • I added purple sugar to some of the pretzels for fun, you could also use a totally different color like black or orange.
    • I left my pretzels whole, but you could also break them in half if you prefer smaller pieces.

    Recipe Notes & Tips:

    • If chocolate will not melt, mix in a bit of solid shortening and continue stirring. Start with a teaspoon and slowly go up from there. Do not add too much or it may not set properly.
    • You can store the popcorn in an airtight container on the counter for at least a week, assuming it lasts that long.

Tools used to create this recipe:

    • Green Candy Melts & Purple Candy Melts
    • Digital Scale to weigh the chocolate
    • Halloween Sprinkles with Eye Balls
    • Ghoulish M&Ms
    • Silicone Spatula
    • Silicone Mat
    • I used an old Tupperware bowl to mix the popcorn together, but a 16 quart Stainless Steel Bowl will also work...and they are handy to have around.
