Welcome to another edition of “It looked so easy on TV.” Are you sitting down, well of course you are, this is a pretty funny story…. Last week I was watching The Kitchen, and Katie Lee made a grapefruit spritzer cocktail for a crowd and I was thoroughly intrigued!! I am not a fan of grapefruit juice, so I decided to create an Orange Peach Mango Spritzer instead…..
Katie Lee’s grapefruit juice was in a carton, orange peach mango juice is in a plastic container…whaaamp whaaaamp. 😉 Okay, I have knives….how hard can it be to cut open a plastic container, right? duntduntduuuunh
I knew to take the screw-on top OFF before placing it in the freezer because liquids expand when frozen {you knew that right?}
Next time I will pour part of the juice into a separate container before freezing, duh!
I pulled out my trusty “Gibbs knife” and cut off the bottom….well I actually made a bunch of marks….then started stabbing holes in a line across the bottom…..
So that part worked, now it just needs to slide out…HAHAHAHAHA Okay, let’s run it under hot water like jello….nope, not gonna budge! I placed the container into a large measuring cup and tried to put it into the microwave for a few seconds, but it is too tall. I just can’t catch a break!! So I stuck it into the top of the glass serving jar and waited…..
and waited….and waited some more. I tried twisting a long knife in the top to create a hole…..
and poured juice into the hole to warm it up form the inside, lol
Alex and his friend Conor showed up about an hour into this process and saved the day…..
Alex was able to cut through the plastic container with scissors. So the moral of the story is, if you have tenosynovitis and nerve damage to your arm….buy juice in a paper carton, LOL I simply do not have the strength to cut through the silly plastic. 🙁
How to make Orange Peach Mango Spritzer:
Soooooo, now we get to pour in a full bottle of wine {which is much needed at this point}, the remaining 1/2 carton of juice, and top it off with a bottle of seltzer water…..
This Orange Peach Mango Spritzer is light and refreshing, with lots of bubbles which is perfect for a hot summer day….or a long stressful day battling a frozen plastic container. 🙂 The frozen juice helps to keep the spritzer cold throughout your party without watering it down with ice cubes. Such a cool idea, and well worth the extra effort. And yes, I do still have all of my fingers. 🙂
Notes:
- If you have kids coming to your party, simply leave out the wine for a fun, bubbly fruit juice spritzer.
- I used orange slices to garnish, but frozen mangoes and peaches would be fun as well.
- Set up a drink station with ice cubes and straws, and your guests can serve themselves.
- I used a 1.57 gallon {6 Liter} glass serving jar.
I wonder how Katie Lee got a frozen square to fit into a round jar??

Orange Peach Mango Spritzer
Ingredients
- 84 ounces orange peach mango juice 1 1/2 cartons/bottles - or your favorite flavor
- 1 bottle white wine
- 2 liter bottle seltzer water
- orange slices to garnish
Instructions
- Place one carton of juice in the freezer to harden. *
- When ready to serve, place frozen juice in a large serving jar.
- Pour in the wine, remaining juice, and seltzer water. Stir to combine.
- Serve with orange slices.
Notes
- The Orange Peach Mango juice that I used only comes in a plastic container, which is incredibly hard to cut open. Juice that comes in a carton will just peel away.
