I was watching Food Network again last week, and a crazy food truck in Los Angeles was serving Meat Lover’s Pizza Rolls. Surprise, surprise, I was intrigued!! It sounded pretty basic, so I bought all of the ingredients and started making my standard Italian Seasoned Ground Beef that I use as a calzone filling…..and then I started to put them together…..
and immediately realized that this recipe was not going to work as planned. He wrapped his pizza rolls in spring roll wrappers and deep fried them. Okay, easy enough. Guess what, there are different versions of spring roll wrappers!!! I bought the clear, rice paper type {the only type that they sell at the grocery store}, apparently what I actually need is closer to a large won ton wrapper.
If it had not been 4:00 in the afternoon, I would have made pizza dough and turned the filling into calzones…..which I will do if I cannot find won ton wrappers. So instead, I have decided to share this delicious Italian Seasoned Ground Beef with you in preparation of the deliciousness to come. 😉
How to make Italian Seasoned Ground Beef:
This is so simple to make, simply heat olive oil in a large skillet over Medium heat. Add the chopped onion and cook until softened, about 4 minutes. Add the minced garlic…..
stir and cook for one additional minute. Add the ground beef and Italian sausage, stir and chop the meat into smaller pieces…..
Grass-fed beef is a crazy, deep pink color. Cook until no longer pink and add the chopped Italian parsley…..
To be honest, I didn’t even measure. I just tossed in a handful. 😉 Stir together, season with salt and pepper to taste, and and serve however you choose…..
Super easy, ready in less than 30 minutes, and full of flavor.
Yes, you can add basil and oregano, but this basic version is used as a base in other recipes so simplicity works.

Not sure where to get the grass fed beef, but it looks so good. It’s hard to find good meat! If you want to be healthy, you could just spoon this into lettuce cups with a little dipping sauce:) YUM!
I buy it at Hy-Vee, our local grocery store. Once the Farmer’s Markets start up again, I can buy it from local farmer instead. 🙂 I am loving your lettuce cup suggestion Seana, that sounds delicious!!
This meat would be a huge hit here at my house whether it be stuffed in pizza rolls or taco shells — no matter! Looks delicious! 🙂
Thank you Marcie. 🙂
Oh my gosh that looks SO amazing – yum yum
