Ahi Poke is a raw fish salad that is served on pupu {appetizer} platters, as a side dish, or as an entree all over the Hawaiian Islands. I will admit…I was a bit skeptical about eating raw fish, it just goes against everything that we mainlanders are used to! But you know what, I got over my fear and gave it a try…and it’s delicious….

What is Ahi Poke?

Poke is the Hawaiian verb for “section” or “to slice or cut”. More traditional versions include aku {an oily tuna} and he’e {octopus}, but ahi {yellowfin tuna} is becoming increasingly popular. To be honest, I am not sure exactly what type of tuna that I used. I found it individually packaged in the freezer section and it is deep pink, which is the color I remember the Ahi Poke being on all of the pupu platters in Hawaii, LOL
