I just love the color of blood oranges, don’t you? Some are super red inside, and others are a combination or orange and red. When I made my Arugula Salad with Fennel and Blood Oranges a few weeks ago, I knew that I needed to come up with a cocktail to show off the gorgeous colors.
And they are delicious! I mean who wants to drink a cocktail that looks pretty but tastes like turpentine? Not me!! 😉 Speaking of turpentine, these Blood Orange Martinis are made with vodka not gin. Sorry, not a fan. #sorrynotsorry
What’s in a Blood Orange Martini?

I juiced 3 medium blood oranges to make two cocktails. I did not strain them through a sieve, but you could if you are looking for a clearer, pulp-free cocktail.
🍸How to make a Blood Orange Martini
Pour the vodka, blood orange juice, Cointreau, and simple syrup into a cocktail shaker filled with ice.
Shake to mix the martinis.
Strain into two martini glasses and garnish with an orange slice and maraschino cherry.
I ran a bamboo cocktail pick through the top of the orange slice, then through the wholes in the cherry, then the bottom of the orange slice. 🙂 {that’s an affiliate link}
📌Recipe Notes & Tips:
- I used Absolut Vodka, but any premium vodka will work.
- For even more citrus flavor use citrus vodka.
- I used Cointreau, but triple sec will work as well.
- If your oranges are really sweet, you may not need to add any sweetener.
- I used these cocktail/dessert/martini glasses. {affiliate link}
