I have not received a check for $250,000 in the mail, so I am guessing that I did not win the oatmeal recipe contest, LOL. I still believe that my Sausage Breakfast Stir-Fry is brilliant, though not easily turned into a processed, packaged oatmeal. My Plan B for the contest was this delicious Pistachio Baklava Oatmeal.....

It has all of the traditional flavors baklava, but only takes about 10 minutes to prepare!

How to make Pistachio Baklava Oatmeal:

I stuck with the tried and true "boil the water" method of preparation, but added some fresh orange zest.....

By cooking the orange zest in the water, it softens and ultimately blends with the oatmeal {so the kids will never be able to find it}.

Stir in oats. Cook for five minutes over medium heat, stirring occasionally.....

Stir in sugar, cinnamon, and honey. Pour into a small bowl, sprinkle with pistachios and drizzle with honey before serving.....

Try a bowl of Pistachio Baklava Oatmeal for breakfast tomorrow. It's loaded with all of the traditional flavors and super easy to prepare | cookingwithcurls.com

Holy Yum, Batman!! Not only is this Pistachio Baklava Oatmeal delicious, but it is also pretty healthy. Pistachios lower bad cholesterol and raise good cholesterol levels. They are also a good source of Vitamin B6, phosphorous, Vitamin E, and anti-oxidants.

I left out the butter {that would be weird} and added a bit of brown sugar to add a background flavor with a touch of sweetness. The honey adds another layer that blends perfectly with the orange, cinnamon, and pistachios. Did I mention that it doesn't take hours to prepare like traditional baklava? 😉

    • The measurements are more like guidelines. Add and subtract according to your own personal tastes.
    • If you don't like pistachios, substitute walnuts or pecans.

My obsession with baklava started 30 years ago with this amazing Choclava/Baklava recipe.....

If you love Baklava, you have to try Choclava! cookingwithcurls.com

Then continued with chewy Baklava Cookies, Baklava Sourdough Sweet Rolls and Baklava Honey-Glazed Walnuts.

I may not have won the contest, but this Pistachio Baklava Oatmeal is a delicious breakfast that I never get tired of.

    Enjoy!!
