I was going to make Cherry Pop Tarts, but then the idea of Cherry Sweet Rolls popped into my head and would not leave! To be honest, pie crust and I have never really become friends, but yeast dough I can make in my sleep!! Trust me, these are so easy to make even if you “think” yeast dough is too hard to work with…..
Don’t worry, step-by-step instructions coming up for these soft and fluffy Cherry Sweet Rolls. 🙂
I make all of my yeast dough in my bread machine, that is what makes it so easy. Those instructions will come first, but I will also show you how to make the dough in a stand mixer below.
How to make Cherry Sweet Rolls:
Bread Machine Instructions:
Place hot water, warm milk, softened butter, egg, and sugar in the pan of your bread machine….
Mix it together with a rubber spatula just enough to break up the egg.
Add the salt and flour. Make a well in the center of the flour. Add yeast to center of flour…..
Place in bread machine and set to “dough” cycle.
Remove dough from machine once it has completely risen…..
Depending on temperatures, it may take longer than the actual cycle. Obviously today was a good day, it grew like crazy!!
Place dough on a flour covered work surface…..
Roll dough into a 15″ x 18″ rectangle…..
My marble board is 16 x 19 to help get the sizing right. 😉
Spread cherry preserves over the dough…..
Starting at the top, roll the dough downward toward you. You will need to lift as you roll, or all of your filling will be pushed out…..
Make sure your finished roll is still 18-inches long. My rolling pin is 18 inches long…..
Slice into twelve 1 1/2″ slices. Place in a 9 x 13 baking dish that has been lightly sprayed with cooking spray {with or without parchment paper}….
Cover and allow to rise until doubled in size, about an hour. Preheat oven to 350 degrees…..
Place in oven and bake for 15 – 25 minutes, or until golden brown and cooked thru in the center…..
Whisk glaze ingredients together in a small bowl {I used 2 tablespoons for a thicker glaze}. Add additional milk to achieve desired consistency. Drizzle glaze over rolls in the pan, then serve….
Soft and fluffy Cherry Sweet Rolls are the perfect way to wake the family up in the morning! No one will be able to stay asleep once they smell them baking in the oven. 😉
Stand Mixer Instructions – with very old images:
Start by heating your water and milk to 110 to 115 degrees…..
add the yeast…..
and let it sit for 5 to 10 minutes to proof…..
If your yeast does not puff up like this, then it is dead and you need to go buy a new jar. ? Now pour the yeast into the bowl of a stand mixer…..
Then add the butter, sugar, flour, salt, and egg and mix for 4 to 5 minutes to combine…..
Place dough into an oiled bowl and cover. Allow dough to rise in a warm location for about 1 and a 1/2 hours, or until doubled…..
Remove dough and place on a flour covered work surface. Continue making your rolls as shown above.

- All ovens bake differently, times are suggestions based on how long mine took…but my oven has a mind of it’s own. Mine took the full 25 minutes to bake, this time….they took 20 last time.
- I used Bonne Maman Cherry Preserves. They are sold in most grocery stores and are made with cherries, sugar, can sugar, concentrated lemon juice, and fruit pectin.
- My breadmachine is so old, they don’t make them anymore. When it finally dies, this Zo is the one that I will replace it with.
- If you do not have a stand mixer or breadmachine, you can also make this dough by hand with a big bowl and a wooden spoon…and some elbow grease.
- In case you are wondering, that is a BOSCH stand mixer that I was using in those images. It has a lid, so I let the dough rise in the mixer instead of moving it.
Wouldn’t these Cherry Sweet Rolls be really pretty, and delicious, on Christmas morning or Valentine’s Day?
