Things are heating up in the world of football, all leading up to the “Big Game”. I have no personal preference when it comes to football teams, so I just chose random colors.

My kitchen and blog colors are green and blue, so that was an obvious choice. The second half are decorated in a patriotic, red, white and blue color scheme. Any color combination can be achieved, just pick your favorite team colors!

What you will need

You will only need three ingredients: OREO cookies, cream cheese, chocolate. So simple. Use white chocolate and color with food gel coloring, or use semi-sweet chocolate to look like traditional footballs.

In a large bowl, beat softened cream cheese until creamy.

Whipped cream cheese in a large mixing bowl.

Non-dairy cream cheese is stiffer than regular cream cheese, that’s why we need to beat it to get it smooth.

I used a small cookie scoop to make 36 cookie balls (the official recipe is 48 (1-inch) balls), that I shaped into footballs using my hands.

Place on a parchment (or waxed paper) lined baking sheet and freeze for 10 minutes.

To decorate your footballs

Melt white chocolate in separate bowls based on how many colors you are using.

I used 5 oz. for blue, 4 oz. for green, 4 oz. for red, and 3 oz. of white {to decorate}.

Add your food coloring and mix together.

If chocolate is too thick, add 1 to 2 tablespoons of shortening to thin.

Using a fork, dip each cookie ball into melted chocolate.

My favorite design is the half and half. I dipped half of the cookie ball into the blue colored chocolate, then allowed it to set before dipping the other half into the green or red colored chocolate.

Once the colors are set, melt the white chocolate and pour into a zipper-top plastic bag. Snip the corner of the bag with scissors and insert a #1 writing tip.

Decorate the top of each football with white chocolate stripes to resemble the laces on a football. Refrigerate for 1 hour or until firm…..and then eat!!

Do cookie balls need to be refrigerated?

Cookie balls made with cream cheese should be stored in the refrigerator to keep the dairy from spoiling, and they taste better when cold. Store for up to 3 weeks in an airtight container in the refrigerator, or 2 months in the freezer.

How do you crush OREOs without a food processor?

The next best option is to use a blender, but you can also place them into a zipper-top freezer bag and freeze them until hardened. Once frozen, smash and roll the cookies inside the bag with a rolling pin until completely crushed.
